Why do Many Students Hate and Struggle in Mathematics

Why Do Many Students Hate and Struggle in Mathematics-If you visit any school or any class and you conduct an interview of all the students in the school environment you will surely discover that a greater percentage of the students prefer other subjects to mathematics. And then you begin to wonder the reasons why do many students hate and struggle in mathematics and fail them.

The subject of mathematics is not just about numbers, but it involves finding solutions to problems even though it seems hard to solve. Mathematics is but a core subject in all schools and students are expected to pass them before graduating from some classes. Although, it still depends on the policy of your school.

Well, I could remember my days in secondary school, particularly in the junior class. I was doing well until our maths teacher left and a new teacher was recruited. Well, he came with his different pattern of teaching and almost all the students hated maths including me.

It happened that 80% of the students performed poorly and we did not ever like mathematics again because he made it seem so difficult and we already took it in that we cannot learn it nor understand it again. until date, most of us including me wish that we got a different teacher during that time because we hated mathematics because of him.

Well, you won’t be far from the truth if you want to blame the students or the school system but they are other more detailed reasons why students dislike mathematics a lot. It becomes a nightmare to them and any mention of the subject sends goosebumps to the skin.

When you see a student who performs poorly in mathematics, it is reasonable to assume that such a student does not like mathematics at all. This is because when you do not like any subject, you certainly will not put much effort in it to learn and understand it.

The term mathematics does not need any form of introduction or definition. As per common knowledge, mathematics deals with numbers, space, shapes, and figures. The basic mathematics formula is Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and Division. These four symbols form the foundational knowledge and basics of mathematics for students.

The importance of mathematics cannot be undermined in every student’s life during and after school.  It is undeniable that a strong knowledge of it helps in problem-solving, finance, and general calculations and it also increases your level of critical thinking when we talk about logic in mathematics.

Well, as much as we would love to walk down straight to reveal some of the reasons why students hate mathematics, we must tell you that mathematics is a simple and easy subject. The benefits are too much and if you only open up your mind to it and avoid that bias, then you will find how simple it is for you. If you do not love mathematics, you are limiting your career paths because you will want to do everything possible to avoid maths in your life.

This means that you will avoid anything that has to do with science. If you are looking for a career in a scientific field like nursing, medical doctor, engineering, anatomy, electrical engineer, or architecture, you will surely need the knowledge and a pass in mathematics to scale through in that area.

More so, if you are interested in any commercial-related field like accounting, business management, finance, or Banking, then you cannot run away from numbers again. The earlier you accepted it, the better you learn and start liking mathematics.

Why do Many Students Hate and Struggle in Mathematics

The essence of giving you the most common reasons why most students do not like mathematics is for you to identify the potential cause on time and make sure it does not affect you. That is the only preventive measure that you can adopt to make sure that you are always good at mathematics and do not fall under the category of those who dislike it.

Family Background

It is common knowledge that when a child is growing up and is already learning how to read and write, the next thing that will be introduced is maths. It includes the basics of it-Addition, counting, subtraction, division, and basic multiplication at different levels.

This stage is very important for that child and the parents or teachers are to play a great role here, especially the parents. This will give that child a positive mindset about mathematics and he will most likely grow up not to be among those students who hate mathematics.

There is no doubt that mathematics is undoubtedly the most difficult subject in school, so it is important to start teaching your kids basic mathematics at an early stage. One good thing it does to that child is that it improves the concentration level, problem-solving skills, thought process, and level of patience because maths questions require critical thinking and concentration.

Now as the child grows up with a good knowledge of basic maths, it becomes easier to advance and become more advanced in maths, and the confidence level increases. So do not miss the foundation so that your child finds it easier to understand and like mathematics.

Teacher Factor

Deleted: Teachers are very influential in the life of students and contribute to the fact that some students do hate mathematics. This is because some of the teachers do not have any enthusiasm for that subject and some of them know but just do not know how to pass it across. It is not an easy task teaching mathematics. You will need a lot of patience and long-suffering as a teacher and at least understand that students in your class are from different backgrounds and have various assimilation abilities.

Some students find it easier to understand mathematics and grab what you are teaching. Now the mistake you will be making as a teacher is to stop teaching when you feel that a particular student already understands what you are saying. It is discriminatory and others will not learn anything, and you will just end up making them hate mathematics and they will keep disturbing or skipping your classes.

If you are a mathematics teacher and you find out that a good number of the students are not showing interest in mathematics, you can simply organize a special session for them to make inquiries as to why they are performing that badly. Then you will know the approach to adopt in making them at least have a better understanding of the subject and appreciate it further.

The goal of a teacher is not just to call out notes or solve mathematical problems only. It extends to taking your time to explain the solution in simple terms and make sure that at least a reasonable number of students can take on the topic you just thought about by giving them some simple tasks and assignments.

School factors

Well, you will understand that it is crucial for your child’s learning that you enroll them in a good school where they can get a quality education.  Yes, the truth is that quality education is very expensive because it takes a lot of money to bring the best teachers to teach the students and make sure they get a good education.

The performance of the students determines whether the school teaches very well or otherwise. Deleted: The school should occasionally try to participate in mathematics competitions which could be inter-school or just intra-mathematics competitions. This serves as an incentive to students and it helps the school to evaluate the performance of their students.

More so, to encourage students to develop a positive mindset about mathematics bearing in mind that students easily hate mathematics, they can award excellent scores in mathematics and encourage others to do better too.

Additionally, the school can also do an occasional evaluation of teachers to present and show how students have performed and their reactions to mathematics subjects. When there is a positive or there is a decline in interest, then it is best to find a way to discover the reasons why the students are hating mathematics. When they know the problem, then you can proffer a solution to restore the likeness and great performance for maths.

Mental Factor

If you show me a student who hates mathematics, you will find one who has lost total interest in mathematics. Well, if you want to learn maths, then you have to be interested in it to understand it.  Some students find it terrible and they get frustrated once they find themselves in that position of finding it difficult to understand mathematics and they simply give up and will not try again.

If you do not have strong mental strength then you are sure that you will hate mathematics. There is no one born with the knowledge and understanding of it. We all are a product of what we believe in and work for.

So if you are a student and you believe that you can not excel in mathematics, then you do not expect to see yourself having wonderful results in it.  This is because we are in control of our choice and when we decide not to put in the effort, it is because we are not interested in it.

So one of the factors you should work on is your mindset. If you see yourself not handling maths because it is a difficult task then you have already failed it mentally and there is no way you are going to pass it at all.

Complexity

This is also another reason why students hate mathematics -complexity. Mathematics is not a straightforward subject because the problem differs but the most important thing that you need to know is the formula. I could remember when we did algebra and linear equations in maths during my school days. It was easy while the teacher was solving it in class but when he gave us to take home assignment and included various problems, it seems like I have never seen such a question before and it became more difficult.

As funny as it is, you will be faced with some vague problems like; if X=25, P=2, then find Y. If Y is proportional to the value of X and P respectively. Normally, if the teacher solves this in class, you will understand it but when you are given a take-home assignment you will do something like this; John has 35 oranges, Ada has 5 apples, and James has 12 pineapples. Find the value of X, Y. It makes you wonder.

So if you don’t want to fall under the category of students who hate mathematics, then you should know that maths is complex and you should be ready to study the questions and find a solution to them. Try repeatedly if you fail until you get it correct and do not give up if you are not getting it.

Peer Groups/Friends

This is another strong reason why many students hate and struggle in Mathematics because of bad influence from friends or peers. The truth is that if you have friends who do not like maths, then it is very likely that they will influence you to also hate it. This is just like them recruiting you to their course.

I remembered that one of the ways I passed maths was because I was on good terms with one of the girls who understands maths and she always encourages me to keep trying even when I fail sometimes. Now, imagine when all your friends hate maths and you don’t know who you want to meet when you find it difficult.

So if you have friends who know and understand maths, it is highly possible that they will also teach you and you will discover that it’s not an impossible subject since they are all passing the subject.

Non-Interesting

Now, this is another issue that some people have with maths. It is like the subject appears boring and non-interesting since it does not have stories and if you do not know it, then you do not know it. It does not allow you to express yourself and try to convince your teacher with your writing of your answer.

Maths is all about principles and if you do not apply them correctly, then you should know that you are going to fail it and you won’t get the answer.

For example; 2+2+2=6. That is the addition principle in maths but a different principle in maths (4-5) will certainly give you a different answer.

Low self-esteem

This has to do with the personality of the student. If you do not have the right training and learning values, then you might suffer from low-self esteem. You will find yourself struggling with the answers that you already know just because you are afraid that you might get them wrong and people will laugh at you.

Well, alright, get that off your head because if you fail it, you will be corrected but if you do not speak, you will not know if you were correct the first time. So you should not be afraid to answer questions in class or participate in competitions or class activities.

If you keep doing that, then you are charging yourself up to keep doing better and then you will understand that it will not pay you much to hate maths as a student because of its numerous advantages.

Lack of Determination

Determination is a key that every student who wants to like maths must have and always practice because maths is not an easy subject. Determination comes in because sometimes you might be given a task and then you fail it repeatedly and you are most likely going to decide that you do not know it and then you give up.

Yes, you do not know it but giving up will not also make you know it too. So the best approach is for you to meet your teacher, parents or friends who could help you with it to explain it better for you. If you are advanced, you can also check out some videos on youtube on that particular subject and you will surely get helpful resources to help out.

When you are determined, even the devil can not stop you from understanding mathematics and you will not fall under the categories of persons who hate maths.

Lack of Practice

They say practice makes perfect even though it is exaggerated. Practice will in real terms make you an expert. This means that when you finish school if you fail to go back and practice the maths questions you did that day, you will find it difficult to remember them next time because you have not internalized them.

The more you practice questions on various maths principles, the easier it is for you to solve many maths principles, and then you will love maths. Well, most students hate maths because of this reason. I hope you do not want to be among them.

Conclusion

Now you have seen the reasons why students hate mathematics and you have seen how you can avoid being among those who dislike it. Yes, maths is a difficult subject but it is not an impossible subject for you to do.

All you have to do is to have the right mental strength and be confident in yourself and keep practicing, then you will find yourself in love with maths.

How to Argue like a Lawyer and Win your Argument Easily

If you want to present a compelling, logical, and evidential argument, then there is a need for you to learn how to argue like a lawyer. We are using lawyers because they are specially trained as advocates to argue the case of their clients in court. So today we will be revealing to you the 10 secrets to arguing and winning arguments like a lawyer.

Have you ever been to a law court and you are marveled at how lawyers present their argument logically to convince the judge or jury of the case of their client? Well, it is a wonderful experience.

So what is the idea of an argument? The argument is not just all about shouting and making several points. If you have ever been involved in a debate about who’s a better footballer between Ronaldo and Messi, you will understand that most people do not understand what an argument is all about.

When we talk about arguing like a lawyer, we are not referring to those heated arguments or exchanges of words you usually have with your friends or parents for you to prove your point.

Simply put, an argument is a statement arranged in a logical manner that contains reasons or premises so that you will have a valid conclusion. The point here is that your argument is broken down into statements, and those statements must be logical; this means that they must be verifiable and reasonable and then you draw a valid conclusion from your premises.

If you argue like a lawyer, it simply means that you have learned and you know how experts look at issues before bringing a persuasive argument that is backed up by reasoning and evidence to support your position.

There is a need for you to always present a quality argument irrespective of your field of study. It does not matter if you are in a medical or engineering field. You are going to be presented with opportunities to convince people in a logical manner of a position. This could be during a formal presentation in your workplace, during meetings, or workshops.

So you need to be armed with confidence and logically arrange your statements so that whenever you speak, you see yourself arguing like a lawyer, getting the attention of your audience, and changing the results of the situation.

A lawyer’s argument in Court could either be in an oral or written format. They prepare their cases and master their words when they appear before a judge to advance their cases in the processes that they have filed. The argument of a lawyer is contained in a process called the “WRITTEN ADDRESS”.

HOW TO ARGUE LIKE A LAWYER AND WIN THAT ARGUMENT

Let us now take our time to unearth the skills or the methods you can adopt to persuade the jury or present a persuasive argument either as a lawyer or In a different profession.

Knowledge of the Facts of the Case:

Having a wholesome knowledge of the facts of a case gives you an edge to knowing the facts that are in the issue. The facts in issue mean what the parties are contending for in the courtroom. You can simply put it as the bone of contention. The best way to be well vast with the full facts of the case is during your client interview. The client interview stage is where the client gives you full disclosure of the facts of the case leading to the claims in court.

When you have a good knowledge of the facts then you are just a few steps away from knowing how to argue like a lawyer.

After that, you have to narrow down the issues according to what the client is claiming or the reliefs that the client is seeking from the court. The reliefs could be monetary or declaratory.

Another way to get a grasp of the facts of the case is by studying the case file that is if you did not have the opportunity of interviewing the client. This could occur when you inherited the case from another lawyer or you just resumed work in a law firm and were given the case file.

When you go through the case file, you will know the claims and the facts and then how to structure your argument.

Remember an argument must be coherent and it must be in chains. This means that it must link to the facts you have stated and then you back it up with decided cases and/or laws if any to win the argument.

On the flip side of it, if you are not a lawyer but you just wish to know how to present your argument like a lawyer then you have to study the thesis you have been given or the topic of discourse. Thereafter read up on the topic and develop a logical line of thought you have to also get links to your sources to prove your case.

Example: Let us say you were given a project to determine whether COVID-19 independently kills humans or whether it acts together with the level of the human immune system to kill the person regardless of the health status or lifestyle of the victim before the infection.

Now you have to understand the topic and pick out the important points like the meaning of COVID-19 and the immune system. Furthermore, you also need to do some data collection and get expert opinions on the paper. All these steps are geared towards giving a logical argument for your case.

Avoid appealing to Emotions to win an Argument

Logically this is one of the weakest ways of winning or arguing like a lawyer. Appealing to emotions means that you do not have facts or you have illogical reasons and you are trying to win the argument by manipulating the emotions of your opponent.

An example of an appeal to emotion is the Coca-Cola advert. Normally they won’t tell you or focus on the nutritional value of the product but they will tell you that it gives you energy. This is in the same way with some energy drinks that you take too. They are all trying to manipulate your emotions and distort your reasoning.

Appeal to emotions is intended to get you to be afraid, happy, fearful, sad, pity so that you will believe in their argument without any other proof.

Emotional arguments are usually prone to occur in delicate issues like rape, sexual harassment, religious debate, and the like of them. They are incidents that could trigger emotions. You will have to put a check on it to make sure that you are armed with facts, logic, and a valid conclusion.

An emotional argument will end in heated arguments, shouting, and crying which are all negative energy. When your opponent knows that you are easily triggered emotionally, they can use it as a tool to weaken you and you will find yourself losing the argument.

Emotions make you weak as a lawyer or anyone engaged in any persuasive argument because you are certainly going to be thrown off balance and you might not give a coherent argument again. So do not allow your opponent to exploit that weakness and hit you below the belt.

You have to be a good listener

If you are interested in knowing how to argue like a lawyer and you do not cultivate the habit of being a good listener, then you are surely going to make lots of mistakes. The gist here is that you should open your ears before you open your mouth.

One very key weapon is to always listen to the points your opponents are making. This will help you to know how to tackle it logically and to dispute it. If you do not pay attention, you are surely going to miss out on some vital points raised by your opponent in court or any persuasive argument. The skill of being able to pay attention to details is a must-have for any lawyer who is so desirous of becoming a good advocate in Court.

The best method to achieve this is by taking down notes of the points made by your opponent and providing a credible answer to it backed up by evidence.

Make a simple and Coherent Argument

Frankly speaking, you will be wrong if you think that the best way to argue like a lawyer is to confuse your opponent. Well, as it sounds nice, it is not a good skill. The essence of an argument is to win your case with evidence and logical and valid arguments advanced by you to prove your assertions and not the other way around.

So you have to prepare your line of argument and make it coherent so that you can at least convince a layman who is listening to you. I am sure you would not want to find yourself in a situation where you will have to keep struggling to explain your points and people begin to ask; What is this guy even saying? Does he make any sense at all?

This is what happens when you don’t make it simple for everyone to understand and flow with your line of thought.

 Skepticism

The principle of skepticism is that you should be so inquisitive to the extent that you are doubting your existence. Sounds strange right? But that is the point, you should not leave any chance for any loophole that may be exploited by your opponent. This means that you should ask questions on every detail to uncover relevant facts and evidence related to your case.

It won’t be good practice for you to start making assumptions. Once you are already making assumptions, you are on a high way to falsehood because you will start making a blind argument without facts and then you might want to resort to appealing to emotions.

When you form the habit of questioning everything concerning that matter you are handling, then you won’t be ambushed by your opponent as nothing will amount to the springing of surprises to you. A diligent lawyer who understands that cases are won and lost by the quality of the argument canvassed will prepare very well to persuade the judge to enter judgment in his favor.

 Research

Good research will surely make sure that you argue like the lawyer that you are and what you are supposed to do because that is why you were hired by your client. Once you are fully aware of the facts of the case and you already know the facts in issue, then the next reasonable thing for you to do is to make research to know the laws, cases bothering on that particular matter and how you will present it in Court for the judge.

You will need to visit the library and make consultations with several authoritative books covering that area of dispute. This will help you determine the strength and weaknesses of your case and how you are going to win against the other party.

Master the art of Persuasion

If you have a good argument with valid points but you do not know how to persuade the judge then you might not know how to argue like a lawyer. As a lawyer, you should train yourself in knowing the skills and art of persuasion. This requires that you should be audible and confident while arguing your case. You should also be able to defend your points when you are asked questions about them by the judge.

If you have a strong argument yet lack skills of persuasion then you might not win any case because you wouldn’t know how to communicate them convincingly. Some of the ways to train yourself in the art of persuasion are by reading books and watching YouTube videos on it.

 Good choice of Words

One thing you should also know to learn how to argue like a lawyer is knowing how to choose the right words to use when presenting your argument in court. Every good lawyer should be a master of words and the best way to use them.

We know how vague and ambiguous some words could be at times so you must choose the best to use depending on the context. As you are choosing words, learn how to keep it simple and precise and you are just a few steps away from winning your case.

Avoid Stuttering

This is another fault that you should look at when you are presenting an argument. You should avoid words like “hmm” repetitive “like” and the rest. This will ruin your argument and it shows a lack of confidence and preparation.

Maintain a balanced pace when speaking

Well, if you want to argue like a lawyer then you should know that lawyers don’t talk too fast when they speak. This will eventually make you make avoidable mistakes. Learn how to maintain a balance when you are advancing your points and making your arguments. If you talk too fast, the judge might not record your points or even your audience might not even follow brilliantly.

However, if you maintain a level speech pace and reasonable audibility, then you are sure of getting stronger ground in that argument and you are most likely going to win it.

Conclusion

We have given you the basic tips on how to argue like a lawyer and we are sure that if you keep following the recommendations then you are sure to become one of the best lawyers that every client would love to hire.

ARE LAWYERS LIARS; HOW TRUE IS IT?

Over time, you may have heard the argument that lawyers lie a lot. This notion has been made out because people see how lawyers defend criminals who in the eyes of everyone are guilty, but lawyers end up getting them released.

These results coming times without numbers have made people doubt the honesty of lawyers in general, further making it difficult for people to trust them and therefore question their integrity in general.

This has also made it less attractive to some persons who which to pursue a career in this profession, as they may feel less reluctant to do this with these allegations of dishonesty among lawyers.

However, the reality remains that this is not true. Lawyers are not in any way liars and this is merely a misconception gotten from the fact that most people do not understand the way the law works.

Below, as we stated earlier, we shall be showing you 10 reasons why lawyers are not liars. These reasons will be well elaborated to ensure that you understand and come to believe us when we say that the answer to the above question is a big NO.

They tell the truth

For someone who staunchly believes in the above question, this is more like a slap to the face. Imagine coming out to the general public and saying ‘Listen up, I just want to say that lawyers are the most truthful people in the world, the reaction from the crowd alone would tell you that you are backing the wrong tree.

However, this is the reality – lawyers tell the truth. In the eyes of the ordinary man, the truth is either black or white; yes or no. There is no room for grey areas in their eyes. They believe that when a man is said to be guilty, he is guilty, irrespective of whatever anyone wants to believe.

This is why it is difficult to convince such a man that his beliefs or discoveries are wrong because he has so much faith in them that he would not part from them. And owing to this, when a lawyer comes around to tell him that this is not the case, he finds it hard to believe.

But the reality remains that lawyers tell the truth because they must find the truth and expose it. The truth might not always be what you see or are told. For instance, when it is reported that a man killed his wife, what the general public sees is a murderer and he should face the highest punishment available. But because a lawyer would be slow to pass judgment without relying on evidence, people term them, liars.

A lawyer would set out to unveil the truth because he has the skill and the duty to do so. It is apologetic that the truth may not be what you want to see, but in the end, it also means that he is not telling lies or in support of a lie.

They fight for justice.

Simply put – a man who fights for justice cannot be a liar. One of the first duties of a lawyer is to uphold the cause of justice because, through it, society obtains a level of stability.

Justice involves ensuring that each man gets what he is due. It is the reward system for both good and bad in the eyes of the court. And when a man is denied his right, he comes before the court for justice to be done in his matter.

Oftentimes, it is argued that lawyers are liars because they stand in the way of justice by denying individuals what is due to them. This is one of the reasons why people feel that lawyers lie a lot.

This is not the case, as someone who stands in the position of upholding justice, is ordinarily expected to tell the truth. The position of a lawyer is noble enough that he is expected to use his position to ensure that justice is done at all times, and with this duty, comes the assurance that such a lawyer in this position would not be dishonest or shy away from the truth. Being in such a position, you cannot tell a lie even if you wanted to.

They uphold the law

From your undergraduate days to your law school period and finally, to when you are inducted to practice as a lawyer, you are taught to uphold the law and the rule of the law.

The rule of the law is that the law is supreme over and above every individual or government. This principle ensures that whatever you do as a lawyer is within the confines of the law.

Your country has a constitution and as a lawyer, whatever you do about your job must be done within the confines of the constitution. You cannot go outside the constitution to defend or aid a client.

This is because as a law that guides human conduct in society, it is deemed to be perfect and infallible, and as such, it should be adhered to strictly, without any addition or subtraction.

As a lawyer posed with this duty, you cannot be said to be a liar. A liar is someone who is not truthful or honest. When you have sworn to uphold the law and you end up doing that, there is no chance of being dishonest.

When you choose to help a client, one of the first things you look out for is whether or not whatever he wants is legal. If it is not, you are not supposed to undertake the responsibility of representing him anymore. Having said this, you cannot categorically say that a lawyer is a liar.

They are professionally disciplined

The duties that come with being a lawyer end up making you a professional who is disciplined enough to shun any and every act that would demean the legal profession.

This is why you should understand that lawyers are not liars because lying puts a dent in the profession of a lawyer. Being disciplined entails that you have to act in a way or manner that is completely different and standard in the eyes of any onlooker.

We live in a world that permits all sorts of vices and ill behaviors. It is no secret that most people are quick to turn to crime for financial benefits. Owing to this, such people engage in all sorts of dishonest characters and end up living a life of deceit and lies.

As a lawyer who is professionally trained to be disciplined, such behavior is far from you and cannot even be remotely associated with you as a result of your training. Owing to this, you are the last person to be expected to behave this way by such training.

This is why is highly unlikely that after being trained and expected to live a life such as this, you would then be associated with dishonesty and lies. Having assumed this role, by your training, it is highly unlikely that a lawyer would tell lies or be associated with actions that make him a liar.

They pursue the evidence.

When a crime occurs, people tend to associate the suspect with the crime as though they must have committed it in the first place. Take for instance, when Cristiano Ronaldo was accused of rape, some people believed that he must have committed the crime. This was why when the court declared him free of the charge, a lot of people claimed the court was partial as they maintained he was guilty.

To some persons, the court was wrong to declare him free. To others, they might have the notion that his lawyers twisted the arm of the law to suit their clients who are global figures. In both cases, that is not the truth. A lawyer is trained to use his skills and knowledge to investigate and solve a crime. While the common man sees a guilty party, a lawyer sees a suspect.

As a lawyer, you are meant to go through the evidence available to you and those which may have been overlooked. This would help you see things that no one had seen or could see.

The sad reality remains that when you see this evidence that does not go with what the public or common man wants, you are tagged a liar. This is me telling you today that a lawyer would have to make an argument based on the evidence before him, and it is this evidence that truly determines whether or not his client is innocent.

Therefore, when his client who is guilty in your eyes is declared innocent, understand that the lawyer is not a liar, but a man who must go beyond common sense to uphold the truth.

They are well-educated

Education frees the mind from ignorance. It is no secret that some of the people who tag lawyers as liars are doing this from a place of ignorance. If you are well educated, you would understand that the duties of a lawyer are such that he is not expected to tell lies, but rather pursue the cause of justice at all times.

A lawyer is educated enough to understand what is required of him. He knows that, by his education, he is expected to be truthful at all times. In a situation where is influenced to be dishonest, he is well-schooled to know that society demands better from him.

Therefore, a man with such a level of education as a lawyer, cannot ordinarily be associated with lying or dishonesty. Also, a lawyer could be in a position where he is expected to impact knowledge on others by telling them the right thing to do and the wrong thing which they do not have to do. Having such an essential role, it is ordinarily expected that you would not be dishonest or live a life associated with or based on lies.

They adhere to procedures in the rules of court.

The court is the place where parties come to argue their matters and seek redress. To ensure that the matters that come before it are successfully argued, there are rules or procedures in place in these courts that ensure that justice is served.

These procedures and rules ensure that the court goes through the right channels and procedures before reaching a judgment for the cause of justice. As a lawyer, you are bound to go through these rules and procedures in your defense of a client. When you go outside these rules, rest assured that as a lawyer, you would not get the justice you seek.

Owing to this, as a lawyer who goes through these procedures and rules, how can it be said that you are a liar? How can it be said that a lawyer engaged in lying or dishonesty to represent his client when the rules would not even allow you to do that?

They are bound by the codes and ethics of the profession

Every profession is bound by rules and ethics that guide the profession. As a lawyer, the ethics that guide the profession are explicit about its provision on dishonesty. One of the reasons why lawyers are not liars is because their codes of practicing their profession guide them against such practices. It is interesting to note that while every country in the world has rules that guide the practice of lawyers, one similar thing among all of them is their stance on issues of dishonesty.

Aside from providing against lawyers living or practicing dishonesty in their profession, some rules and codes provide for punishment for such actions. Some provide that when a lawyer engages in such practices, he may be prohibited from practicing the profession for some time, or indefinitely.

Whatever the case may be, when a lawyer engages in dishonest practices, he is only digging his own grave as upon being caught, he faces serious consequences.  When this happens, he might end up not being a lawyer anymore. With this kind of scenario, and with this much to lose, how can he stoop to the level of being dishonest or telling lies?

By their profession, they cannot tell a lie

When you hear that lawyers are liars, you should first and foremost understand who a lawyer is. Having good knowledge of this would make you understand why this cannot be the case.

A lawyer is a disciple in the temple of justice. This means that his utmost duty is to ensure that justice is done. For justice to be done, the lawyer must do all that is expected of him, including ensuring that the truth is the objective and it must be uncovered by the law.

Having all these in mind, as a lawyer, how can you even entertain the thought of being dishonest, or how can you blatantly accuse a lawyer of being a liar? The two cannot hold water in the case.

For a lawyer who understands the full weight of his profession, being dishonest is something that would be far away from you. And so, you should be quick to point this out to anyone looking to make remarks such as the subject matter.

By their position in society, they cannot tell a lie

I will tell you a story that I witnessed. A few years ago, a family adopted a young girl who was an orphan. Despite having children of their own, they still felt the need to add this girl to their family. Everyone applauded them for this kind gesture and kept showering them with praise, but little did they know that the girl was being subjected to inhuman treatment in the house.

She was the one that washed all the clothes, washed the dishes, and did all the chores in the house. Whenever she did not do any of these properly, she was severely beaten and heavy injuries were inflicted on her. To top it off, she would only be allowed to eat when everyone has eaten, and the food was usually leftovers or on some days, she would be asked to dig through the trash can for leftovers.

One day, a family relative who happens to be a lawyer visited the family. And when he witnessed all these, he wasted no time in calling the attention of the authorities. When I inquired about his reasons, he said “Anyone could pass by and the public would not complain, but if a lawyer passes by and acts indifferent to this, then the society is really in trouble”.

That is why the role of a lawyer cannot be overemphasized, and most importantly, why he cannot tell a lie or be tagged a liar.

CONCLUSION

Well, I am sure you no longer believe in the fallacy that lawyers are liars or engage in such an argument anymore. The essence of this article was to enlighten you and I am certain that we have done that already.

Essay on 10 Advantages of Being a Primary School Teacher

An Essay on the Advantages and Disadvantages of Being a primary school teacher – This profession is often regarded as the noblest profession in the world. It is not because it is the highest pay, or because it requires advanced degrees to work in this profession.

The reason is because of the responsibility it comes with. It takes more than effort to shape the minds of young people or even old people (in the case of adult education). It requires great skill and precision.

Sadly, a lot of people would choose to pursue other career paths than go into teaching. The reason is that they feel it is not rewarding enough and that teachers are not accorded enough prestigious recognition, unlike other professions.

Either way, we shall be discussing the teaching profession and what it means to be a teacher. After that, we shall be looking at other relevant pieces of information as they relate to the topic.

WHO IS A TEACHER?

A teacher is anyone who is saddled with the duty or responsibility of helping students to acquire knowledge or the relevant information which they ought to learn in school. The teacher also helps the students to understand and inculcate in them ethical values like competence, virtue, and so on.

Teaching may be done either in the classroom which is a formal setting or in an informal setting like the house (homeschooling). Whatever the setting might be, the fact that knowledge is being imparted by an instructor is enough to categorize such as teaching.

Teaching is mostly done by paid professionals who are employed either by the private or public school system. In some cases though, some people take it upon themselves to teach children in extreme conditions like war-torn zones or poverty regions for free. These categories are mostly attached to NGOs or carrying out such services under the wings or arms of an international humanitarian organization.

Ordinarily, when people talk about a teacher, they limit them to the classroom or educational institutions. That may be correct, but the role and personality of a teacher do not begin and end in a classroom; it involves more than that.

It could also involve a situation where a motivational speaker is talking to a crowd or gathering of people and successfully imparting them knowledge they never had. Also, it can be seen through a pastor or church minister who teaches the words of the bible to the congregation.

In the end, we are trying to say that the profession involves teaching and imparting knowledge, both within and outside the classroom, by either paid or charitable professionals, and not only is knowledge imparted but other essential ethical values can also be imparted.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF A BEING A PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER?

Being a teacher, as we earlier stated has its ups and down. Some people who find the profession less attractive for several reasons do so not because of any special reasons, but owing to the glaring disadvantages that it offers.

On the other hand, some people find it attractive due to the plethora of advantages available for professionals in this field, as well as the profession in general. Whatever the case may be, we shall be looking at each of their advantages and disadvantages shortly.

Essay on 10 Advantages of Being a Primary School Teacher

There are a lot of reasons why you should be a teacher. Some people see the profession as being one that is less rewarding and unattractive, but the truth is told, people tend to pass judgment on things they do not understand.

There are lots of reasons why you should choose this profession over other professions, as we shall be showing them to you shortly. These advantages or benefits of being a teacher include

More Available Job Opportunities-One of the beautiful things about the teaching profession is the available job options that exist in this profession. Statistics have shown that the profession would gain over 5% increase within the next ten years for the Kindergarten level of education and, over 7% for the profession in general, which is almost more than what is expected of other professions in the United States of America.

This shows that the profession will continue to offer employment opportunities in the nearest future. This is the case because as the population increases. So is the fact that people will need education. Therefore, this is a profession that has an employment edge over other professions.

Extensive Breaks- Most professions do not afford you the time to go on long breaks. Aside from the regular weekends and some public holidays, some career paths ensure that you continue to work.

Some career paths could even have you working through the holidays and weekends, with the excuse of better pay, or in some extreme cases, you get paid less to nothing or nothing at all for such an extensive break.

This is not the case with this profession as you have the time to go on break given the fact that schools go on long, periodic breaks various times in the year, giving you a chance to relax, rest and enjoy other things or endeavors which you will love to engage in during your free time.

Human Interaction/Bonding-One of the beautiful things about choosing a career path in this profession is the human interaction it offers. As a teacher, you end up spending most of your time around the students and this bond would go a long way to ensure that they end up being better students, and better people.

As a teacher, such human interaction would also benefit you too as you would be exposed to the vulnerability of the students, and you would have to mold them based on the ideal version of the persons they ought to be.

In the end, a relationship would be created which would go a long way in ensuring that they do not leave the good path that this bond has placed them on.

Transferrable Skills-Most people think that teaching means that you get to spend a large portion of your life in the classroom with just your knowledge of what you want to teach, and in the end, when knowledge becomes obsolete, you cannot even boast of any other skills.

This is purely untrue as the profession offers you soft skills that you can even use outside your profession as a teacher. These soft skills include public speaking, human relationship skills, listening skills, and other skills that are incidental to their skills as teachers.

As a teacher, there is no challenge when you want to quit your job for employment opportunities in other career paths outside your profession. The soft skills acquired will come in handy.

Satisfying Job-The job of a teacher is pretty tense and difficult, and in the same vein, it brings a lot of frustration when the student does not do well. It is like a builder who spends time and energy constructing a house. He goes with the plan, goes through all the necessary procedures, and believes he has done a good job. Only for the rain to come and he discovers that the roof is leaking, the house is flooded and other things which he felt were in place at the time of construction, were all faulty.

That is how a teacher feels when a student fails. But no joy is greater than when a student, using the sample and template of the teacher, ends up doing perfectly well. That is where the satisfaction comes from – the fact that the students who are taught are doing well.

Learning opportunities-Teaching allows you to learn more or retain what you have learned. Let us take for instance, during my time in high school, I would take out extra time to teach my classmates some topics which they may have difficulty in understanding.

In the end, I found out that I got to have more widened knowledge about the topic than I used to before I began teaching it to my colleagues. The secret is in the fact that the continued repetition, as well as the fact that you tend to research more about the topic before you teach it, makes it easy for you to remember and broadens your knowledge of the topic.

Creates a sense of community when you work in this profession, it gives you the sense that you are working not in some corporate world filled with massive competition and rivalry, but within a community of professionals, bonded by their shared passion for the job.

This communal relationship extends to the students who also see their teachers as guardians, friends, siblings, or something close or more than family, as against seeing them as masters. It makes the whole learning environment easy seamlessly easy.

Everything within the profession is geared towards ensuring that this lifestyle is adopted by everyone within the profession from the teacher to the students.

Being a hero-In the army, you get rewarded with ranks for bravery and your service to the army. There are fireworks, salutes, a crowd cheering you on, and so on. That is how a hero is celebrated in that profession. In other words, you are rewarded with all sorts of gifts, elevations, and other things incidental to being a hero.

For a teacher, it is more of a personal gratification which could also be resounding especially when it comes from the mouths of the students who have greatly benefited from it.

Owing to how insignificant the profession may appear to be, most people tend to see that teachers are more unsung heroes, whose achievements could rival even that of a war hero. As people who continuously shape minds, every great mind owes that progress to a teacher somewhere. They are true heroes. As a teacher, you can get to wear this badge too.

You can feel the effect of your handiwork-No profession reaps instant results as teaching, with lightning speed. Most professions take more time before they feel the impact or effect of your work. Some take weeks, days, or in some cases, years before the effect of the work is felt.

This is not the case with this profession. The effect of this profession is such that as you are teaching, you can easily see whether or not the student understands what you are teaching, and if they do not, you have the instant chance to retract your step and try out a different method.

This chance is not available for most professions, as they either have to wait a long period to correct errors made in the line of work owing to how slow the effect of the work comes.

Benefits like pension, insurance, and so on- Teaching remains a career that is rewarding both while you are working, and while you are no longer in active success. Aside from the fulfillment you get from an illustrious career dedicated to shaping the minds and actions of people, you get to enjoy retirement benefits like a steady pension, insurance, and so on.

This opportunity is not available for people who work in most companies or another line of work, as they are required to make hay while the sun shines. They have to save and engage in various cooperative schemes to be sure that they have enough to last them through retirement.

But in this profession, you have the chance of a retirement benefit like your pension, insurance covers, and so on.

Essay on 10 Disadvantages of Being a Primary School Teacher

As we have stated above, the advantages or benefits of being a teacher may be as overwhelming as may be, but the fact remains that there is a downside to this too.

Below, we shall be looking at the disadvantages that come with being a teacher.

Poor Salaries-The teaching profession is not exactly lucrative. Unlike various professions that would have you earning massively, with this profession, you earn little.

For instance, the basic salary of a teacher annually is $60,000 with some areas paying as much as $80,000. This falls short for someone with a college degree, whereas people in other fields or career paths with the same college degree are paid way more than that.

That being said, if you are seeking a profession that would allow you to leave a flamboyant lifestyle, spend big, and have enough to save, then sadly, you need to look out for another career path as this profession cannot help you with that.

Lack of Support from Administration-This profession enjoys the least support from administrations both of the institution and that of the state or province. It is no secret that people tend to overlook the importance of teachers.

This is an age-long complaint that has seen various administrations use their plight as mere propaganda to gain votes or score political points. On the side of the administration of the school or institutions, they mostly care about the revenue or prestigious honors that can be gotten from the school but pay little attention to the plight or well-being of the teachers.

With this lack of administrative support, it is no secret that the profession is facing more recline as days go by.

Being under scrutiny- The potter is always under constant criticism, as the saying goes. It is the same thing with a teacher because just as a potter helps to mold the clay, the teacher helps to mold the mind of the students.

Teachers face the biggest scrutiny and criticism from all angles that affect the profession. They face scrutiny from the parents or guardians of the children. They face criticism from the principal or administrators of the school, they face criticism from their colleagues, and in some cases, their students.

These scrutinies may be good if the aim was to make the teacher better, but that does not seem to be the case, as it ends up making the teachers feel bad about themselves, coupled with the other problems which they may be facing already.

No Vacation-Other professions give their employee time to go on vacation. It affords time to forget about work and just go about their personal affairs while taking time to relax and rest from the stress and rigors of their jobs.

A teacher does not know this benefit, because it is simply not afforded to them. Even during break, they have to prepare ahead for the start of school, with their lesson notes and plans.

The long break is a period where they have to prepare their notes and slides for the next session or the beginning of the next academic period after the break. So without a vacation, the teaching profession ends up with the lack of patronage that other professions get.

Lack of resources- There are limited resources available for teachers in the teaching profession, unlike in other professions where the resources are plenty and possibly endless.

In most cases, most teachers have to source materials or resources themselves with little or no assistance from the administration. The library may lack the necessary books, the laboratory may lack the necessary equipment, and so on. But the fact remains that students ought to learn, so it now falls on the teacher to source these materials themselves.

Irrespective of the fact that they may have successfully sourced these materials, they are not compensated by the administration, as they are quickly reminded that it is their job in the first place.

Age-long administrative processes hinder the learning process-The learning process has been hindered by archaic administrative procedures that make it difficult for teachers to effectively work.

Virtually every profession experiences changes that reflect the recent times and practices of what is expected from the profession. They undergo these changes periodically and from time to time.

But for the teaching profession, the same principles are practiced over the years, making it difficult to proper teacher the students well. Some schools still use chalkboards to teach, and some schools draw computer appliances on the board without having any physical parts. This type of negligence is what would end up greatly affecting the profession negatively.

No pay during breaks-When you go on breaks as a teacher, it is automatically assumed that you are not working and as such, you are not entitled to earn salaries or wages.

This is irrespective of the fact that you have to work during breaks to ensure that the next academic session goes well for you and the student, and by extension, for the school.

The payment only runs during your school time or academic session, but outside that, your salary ends. That discourages a lot of people from pursuing a career path in the teaching profession.

Less budget allocation-As we had earlier stated, teachers enjoy little to no love from the government or people in the administration. This can be seen through the amount of budget allocation given to them

When government allocates a budget, a bulk of it goes to financing the military, war, and other areas that they feel have more relevance than the profession, whereas education gets one of the lowest allocations.

This would discourage anyone from pursuing a career here because with such low budget allocation, comes the fact that you would end up with close to nothing as salary or wages, or less funding for education-related projects or programs.

Different learning styles-This is more personal to the teacher and the student. There is a tendency that students to have various individual learning methods. While some can learn on the spot, others have to go home and read to understand, while others have to be repeatedly taught before they understand.

This can be stressful on the part of the teacher, as you have to embrace these differences and see how you can relate to each student individually to ensure that they can function better with the rest of the class.

If you lack such patience, it could become difficult for you to effectively do your work.

Cumbersome workload- Teaching has about the highest workload of any other profession out there. You have to constantly ensure that you are up to date with available knowledge for each course or topic that you teach.

You have to constantly research and make notes, and go through various materials and resources to get accurate information to pass on to the students.

While others may see it as no big work, moving close enough you would see how much work this is on the side of the teacher.

CONCLUSION

Being a teacher has its advantages and disadvantages, and as such, we are glad that you took the time to go through the article.

The aim of this article has been achieved and I am sure that you will have the best tool to check the benefits of being a teacher or if you do not want to be a teacher.
